    Getting Started with Chatbot Builder Blocks

    In Digital Connect, you can build your bot using Blocks. A Block is an action that the bot performs, like sending a message, collecting an input, etc. A bot is made up of multiple action blocks connected in a conversation flow.

    Digital Connect Chatbot Builder consists of 8 blocks consisting of Text, Pictures, Videos, Documents, Audio, Interactive Buttons, Interactive list and Template.

    Let’s explore each Block type.

    Text Block

    You can send a text message to users and create a text message to make the bot become more natural by clicking the Text tab on the trigger tray and enabling Bot Response text editor. You can also make the text bold / italic in the text editor.

    Interactive Buttons

    This block allows you to send a message with buttons (max. 3 buttons are allowed) with button’s text not to exceed more than 20 characters. Users can click the button in order to receive a bot response.

    Interactive List

    This block allows you to send a list message as radio buttons (max. 10 options are allowed) and option’s text cannot exceed more than 24 characters. This block is suitable for displaying a list of options for users to make a selection when interacting with your WhatsApp bot .

    Image Block

    This block allows you to upload an image from the computer and send it as a bot response

    Document

    This block allows you to upload a document from the computer and send it as a bot response.

    Audio

    This block allows you to upload audio from the computer and send it as a bot response.

    Template

    This block allows you to send WhatsApp approved templates by providing the template name. The template name must exactly be the same as the one approved by WhatsApp.

    After successfully submitting your Training Data, you have the option to create either a Hybrid Bot, which combines GPT technology with other Triggers for integration, or a GPT bot integrated with OpenAI. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating a GPT bot.

    To accomplish this task:

    • Click Build GPT Bot
    • Provide a name for your bot.
    • Describe what your bot does.
    • Select the channel where you want to deploy your bot.
    • Click on GPT in action block tray
    • Add a trigger to establish a connection with your GPT powered bot.
    • Create a Welcome Message for your users after they choose the GPT option from the bot menu.
    • Click on Update Trigger to save and update your bot.
      Test your Bot
      Click on the Test your bot button and begin simulating a conversation that resembles human interaction in order to evaluate the accuracy of your bot responses.

    Usage of OpenAI account

    To access a summary of your organization’s API usage, simply log in to your OpenAI account.

    To do this:

    You can view the daily cost of your API usage here.

    To see how many tokens you have left, log in to your OpenAI account, and go to the “Usage” tab.

    To check your token usage history, scroll the page down to the “Daily usage breakdown (UTC)” section. You can see the whole history or filter it by specific date or team member.

    To begin, you will need to create an OpenAI account and link it to your chatbot. We will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to do this, as well as information on the AI models that are available for you to use. Additionally, we will guide you on effectively training your bot to meet your business requirements.

    Getting Started

    The GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is an advanced AI model developed by OpenAI. It is designed to generate text and code, making it a versatile tool for various applications.

    The primary GPT models offer a wide range of functionalities. They can analyze text across different difficulty levels, provide accurate answers to questions, optimize text for SEO and SMM tasks, categorize text into tables, assist with brainstorming, edit and translate text, handle coding and mathematical tasks, and support conversations on any topic, including specific subjects.

    To leverage the power of GPT for your business tasks through a chat bot, you need to follow a few steps. First, choose an appropriate GPT model that aligns with your requirements. Then, customize your prompts by adding reply sentiments, narrowing down your list of questions or topics, and incorporating relevant information about your business. You can also provide examples of the desired responses you would like the chat bot to deliver.

    Create an OpenAI Account

    • Go to OpenAI, and create an account. Click Sign up, enter your email address, and click Continue, or continue with your Google or Microsoft account
    • Enter your email address and then enter a password in the next window. You will receive a confirmation email in your inbox.
    • Click Verify in the email and enter your name and the name of your organization.
    • Enter your phone number to receive a SMS conformation code.
    • Enter the code, and log into your account.

    Before choosing a phone number to use, check OpenAI’s list of supported countries and territories.

    • Go to the API Keys tab and click Create new secret Key, and copy your key.

    You need to save a key on your device because you cannot copy the same key on this page a second time. If you lose the key, you will need to generate a new one.

    Set Up the Integration

    Now that you have successfully generated the API key, you will need to enable it in Digital Connect Bot Builder.

    To do this:

    1. Go to the Chatbot Builder in Digital Connect.
    2. Click on Settings and then click on OpenAI GPT tab. Here you can configure the mandatory details for integrating GPT models with your Bot Builder.

    Enter Your API Key

    • Enter your Open AI Secret Key and Organization ID.

    Choose a Model

    Choose your AI Model to generate bot replies. Each engine has its own unique capabilities and is suited for different types of tasks.

    Model Description Recommended use cases
    Davinci The most comprehensive yet expensive and slower model, as it works with a large amount of data. It can perform the same tasks as other models but requires fewer prompts in the “Bot instructions” field.

    Use it to perform tasks where it needs to analyze the context deeper and generate more complex text or code. Also, you can use it to solve logic problems involving cause and effect.     		Analyzing complex intent and cause-and-effect problems, summarization, and explaining and generating code
    Curie The model can analyze text, answer direct questions, and provide key points.

    Use it for Q&A in chatbots. For example, in the “Instruction for bot” field, you can enter your questions and answers that the bot will use.     		Translation, complex classification, text sentiment analysis, and summarization
    Babbage The model is good at picking up obvious text patterns and using them as references to generate new text.

    Use it to classify information and assign categories. For creative applications, Babbage is able to understand structure just enough to be able to create simple plots and titles.     		Moderate classification, and semantic search classification
    Ada The fastest and cheapest model. Use it when you need to parse text faster without too much nuance. Parsing text, simple classification, address correction, keywords
    ChatGPT A gpt-3.5-turbo model trained on human conversation data. Able to generate human-like responses with a more natural tone than other models and personalize its replies based on the topic and previous user messages. Generating replies for messaging apps and virtual assistants and implementing QA systems. Giving the software a natural language interface. Providing tutoring in various subjects. Simulating characters for video games and much more.

    Only davinci, curie, ada, and babbage models are available for fine-tuning. In this field, you can also specify one of the OpenAI system models that aren’t in the standard list. The full list is available in the OpenAI documentation.

    Add a Prompt to the Bot

    GPT Models provide versatile capabilities, from text analysis to generating topic-specific replies. By customizing prompts and incorporating text sentiment and company information, you can create personalized and meaningful interactions with your chatbot.

    When creating a prompt, keep the following recommendations in mind:

    Here are some simple recommendations for creating effective prompts:

    • Provide detailed instructions for your bot, including user interactions, desired reply details, and topic preferences.
    • Use examples to illustrate your desired outcomes, such as sorting lists or classifying paragraphs.
    • Ensure high-quality and accurate input data and be clear about language preferences.
    • Personalize the model by describing specific personas or characters for more tailored responses.
    • Test and refine your prompts in the builder workspace until you achieve the desired results.

    AI analyzes text in all languages and can answer in a language you specify, but it interacts better in English. If you do not specify a language, the bot will answer in English by default

    If you have any questions about how to create bot prompts or possible scenarios, you can check existing discussions or start a new one in the OpenAI community.

    Provide a Token Number and Set Up the Temperature

    Tokens refer to the individual units (such as words and characters) used to represent and process text. They are important to keep track of as they contribute to the model’s input limit and incur additional costs when interacting with the API.

    In terms of the English language, typically, one token in ChatGPT corresponds to one word. However, keep in mind that tokens can also represent single characters or punctuation marks, which may affect the exact conversion rate from tokens to words.

    For each request, the token count takes into account the number of words in the following places:

    • in the “Bot Prompt” field;
    • in the last messages in a chat with a bot;
    • in the current question that a user asks a bot;
    • in the current answer that a bot provides a user with.

    After completing the signup, OpenAI automatically gives $18 credits for 3 months. This money will be withdrawn when you use tokens. Token fees vary depending on the model used. For example, the Davinci model in a live environment cost $0.1200 per a thousand tokens, while the Ada model in a test environment costs $0.0004.

    • Provide token number In the “Maximum number of tokens in response” field, specify a number. For the Davinci model, you can enter up to 2,048 tokens, and for all other models — up to 1,024 tokens.
    • Provide a temperature indicator value from 0 to 2.

    Temperature is a parameter that determines the randomness of the output. Higher temperature values (e.g., 1.2) lead to more random and diverse responses, while lower values (e.g., 0.2) make the outputs more focused and deterministic. You can adjust the temperature setting based on your desired level of randomness in the generated responses.

    Save the Integration

    Now you have successfully configured all the mandatory fields to integrate OpenAI GPT into your Bot builder.

    How to Build a Bot? A Step by Step Approach

    A chatbot is a software that simulates human conversation to solve customer queries and allows companies to communicate with their audiences instantaneously.

    Chatbots can be used to help automate repetitive conversational tasks like collecting information, resolve customer issues, create unique marketing experiences, provide answers to FAQs and connect to human agents if needed.

    Eocean Digital Connect lets you build smart, functional bots across many communication channels without writing a line of code. Sounds pretty cool right?

    This article will guide you through the steps required to build a conversational bot. However, it is strongly advised to read the article about Action Blocks to get a better understanding of bot builder before creating your first bot.

    Let’s begin!

    Build a bot

    In our example, we will create a bot with two menu options.

    1. Collect user contact details to register them for a product launch wait list
    2. Enable users to chat with human agents.
    1. Create bot profile
    • Click on Chatbot builder in left navigation pane to access the builder dashboard and then click Build from scratch to access the builder canvas.

    If you are new to the bot building tool, it is recommended for you to build your bot using one of our available templates. Choose from different templates provided by our experts that fit your use-case.

    Name your bot

    Provide a unique name to your bot to identify it later.

    Describe your bot

    Provide a brief description about the intended purpose of your bot

    Choose your channel

    Select the channel on which you would like to deploy your bot. Digital Connect allows you to build your bot for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Google’s Business Messages and Web Channel.

    It is mandatory to integrate your channel with your Digital Connect account before deploying the bot. Learn more about integrating channels on this link.

    Check this link to learn more about the type of media supported by each channel before selecting your bot channel.

    You can always edit and deploy a bot to another channel at any time.

    1. Create Bot Menu using the Message Block

    Bot Menu is made up of different options connected to each other to trigger a bot flow. it’s like a mini-website built into your website chat widget. Depending on what the user clicks on, the bot then prompts another set of options for the user to choose from and so on.

    • Click on Add Trigger within the builder canvas to open the Message block tray

      Trigger Name

      Provide your trigger a name to identify your trigger.

      Initiate Conversation with

      In Initiate Conversation with section, provide keyword(s) such as Hi, Hello etc. that will trigger a bot flow when a user sends that keyword to your bot.

      Bot Response

      In a Bot Response section, add a message that your bot will send back to the user such as a greeting or a welcome message in response to the user input . It can be a text, media or a template message.

      Bot Menu

      In Bot Menu section, you can navigate users down a desired flow when user selects a menu option. In this case, we will add two menu options for users to choose from.
      1. Register on waitlist
      2. Chat with an agent
    • Click on the Update Trigger to save the bot flow.

    Awesome! Your bot flow will now appear on the builder canvas. You can zoom in by clicking on the buttons on bottom left side of the canvas to edit the flow .

    Now that you have created the bot flow, your bot needs to collect user input if the user selects the option to Register on waitlist. For this use case, we will use the Form Block to create step by step conversational form to collect user data.

    1. Create a conversational form using the Form Block
    • Go to the Builder canvas and click on Settings.
    • Navigate to Form Builder > Create Form to start creating a new form

      Form Name

      Provide a name for your form.

      Form Description

      Provide a description about the intended purpose of the form.

      Form Fields

      Add customer form fields one at a time and provide field name and field type (validate as text, email, number, regular expression) for each field.

      On Form Submit

      You can provide a trusted email address to receive form data upon form submission.

    You can also view the submitted user responses inside the bot builder settings section

    • Once you have created a form, you can select the newly created form from the drop-down list within the Form block and provide a Welcome Message to introduce your users to the form and a Confirmation Message to thank them for submitting the form responses.
    • Click on Add Trigger to save the bot flow

    You can see that as you add triggers, the bot flow will be updated on the builder canvas.

    1. Bot to Human handover

    We will now create a bot flow for Chat with an agent, our second option within our bot menu.

    • Create the trigger for Bot to Human Handover with trigger name, keywords and Bot response as you added for the message block in the previous section.
    • Click the Bot to Human Handover check box to allow the user to route the bot conversation to a human agent.
    • Click on Add Trigger to update the bot flow.



      Your updated bot flow will now be visible on the builder canvas.

    Once, you have completed the flow for your bot, its time to test your bot.

    1. Test your bot flow

    You can test your bot flow in real time using the Test your bot feature. This feature enables you to see if your bot behaves the way its intended to and fix any issues and errors bot before publishing it.

    • Click on Test your bot to activate the preview window and simulate the bot conversation
    1. Publish your bot

    Finally, its time to publish the bot on your channel to let your bot engage with your users.

    Before publishing your bot, It is recommended to add a chat widget on your site to let your customers have a real-time direct line of communication with your bot and support agents in your company without having to wait on email or telephonic correspondence. If you’ve not already added the code snippet on your web, you will need to do so, so that your channels widget can pop-up on your website for your customer interaction.     • Click on Publish and a modal will appear. Click Yes to publish the bot on your channel.
    1. Analyze the results and Improve

    Navigate over to Insights dashboard and see your bot conversations grow.

    How to Add Your Own Proprietary Enterprise Data to Train your Bot?

    With Digital Connect Bot Builder’s OpenAI GPT interface, easily add data from your website and help documents to build an extensive internal knowledge base and fine tune GPT-3 LLM (Large Language Model) specialized to your enterprise.

    After successfully integrating your OpenAI GPT account, you can begin the process of manually creating data to train your bot in the Digital Connect chatbot builder. There are two options available for adding training data:

    1. Via Web User Interface

    2. By uploading a CSV file

    To do this:

    • Click on Chatbot Builder and then Click on Settings
    • Click on Training Data

    Manage Data Categories

    To begin, it is recommended to add training data or FAQs based on categories. This allows you to group together relevant queries for better organization. For instance, if your organization has multiple departments like billing, support, and sales, you can segregate your data into these categories. This makes it easier to update the training data when needed. For example, if you have pricing-related queries, you can place them under the billing category. It is important to note that if no category is chosen, the Default Category will be automatically assigned.

    • Click on three horizontal dots and select the Manage Data Categories.
    • Click on the Add Category button.
    • Name your data category and click on the Save button to add the category.

    Add Training Data

    via Web User Interface

    Now you can begin adding a dataset to train your chatbot to autonomously handle conversations with users and provide responses to their inquiries.

    To do that:

    1. Click on the Add Training Data button
    2. Select the appropriate data category, enter the user’s question, and provide the bot’s response.
    3. To upload your training data, simply click on the Add button..


    Congratulations! Your training data has been successfully uploaded to OpenAI. Now, you can continue adding more data in the same manner to further enhance your chatbot’s capabilities.

    By uploading a CSV file

    By uploading a CSV file, you have the option to add your dataset for training. This feature enables offline collaboration with your team members to prepare the dataset file and upload it in just one attempt. It also eliminates the need for manual data entry one record at a time using web interface, allowing you to effortlessly update all your training data simultaneously.

    To accomplish this:

    • Select the Upload Training Data option.
    • Click on Download the sample CSV file.
    • Fill the CSV file with your own data.
    • When you are ready to upload your file, click the Upload button.

    Upload History

    You can view the details of your uploaded data files by accessing the Upload History tab.

    • Click on Upload History

    On this page, you can easily access information such as the file name, upload type, upload time, record count, and status for your uploaded data.

    Submit Training Data

    After uploading your dataset to your Digital Connect account, it is now time to submit the data to the OpenAI platform for training. This is an important step as it allows your bot to effectively respond to user requests using the specific data set you have provided.

    To do this:

    • Click Submit Training Data

    Congratulations! Your dataset has been successfully submitted to OpenAI for training. This is a significant milestone as it now enables you to build a GPT powered chatbot to respond to user requests based on the specific data you provided.

    Action blocks are the building blocks for the bot. You use action blocks to trigger an action such as initiating a conversation, collecting an input, sending API request, transferring to a human agent and more.

    Action Blocks in Bot Builder

    Action blocks are the building blocks for the bot. You use action blocks to trigger an action such as initiating a conversation, collecting an input, sending API request, transferring to a human agent and more.

    So lets dive in!

    The Bot Builder has multiple action blocks that you can use to build your bot flow.

    Trigger

    A bot starts with a trigger – an action user performs to initiate a bot flow or a conversation. By default, the bot is triggered to appear without any condition defined.

    There are 3 action blocks that you can trigger the bot with:

    1. Message Trigger
    2. API Trigger
    3. Form Trigger

    Message Block

    During a conversation, the bot may send informative messages to the user and does not expect a response back from them. These messages help build up the conversation rather than having a monotonous job of collecting input from the user.

    With this action block, you can send a series of informative messages that can be either text or rich media (images, videos, pdfs).

    Message Block Components

    You can open the message block tray by clicking on the Add Trigger within the builder canvas.

    Video Not Available

    There are 4 major components in a Message block.

    1. Trigger Name

    You can provide a trigger name for your understanding and in order to make it unique.

    2. Initiate conversation with

    You can add keywords so that whenever a user types those keywords, a bot response or a flow is initiated.

    3. Bot Response

    You can add responses for your bot that the user will receive whenever a trigger is initiated based on user action. Bot response could either be a text, media or template message.

    4. Bot Menu

    If you want to add menu options, you can click on Add Menu Option to create new options and they will be added as new triggers.

    Add Fallback Response (Optional)

    The fallback response is triggered when your bot doesn’t recognize the user’s message. You can add a fallback message to trigger a bot response whenever customer sends an invalid message.

    Add Loopback Response (Optional)

    You can add a loop-back response to take your users to a specific menu option. You can choose the trigger from the list to trigger the specific flow.

    Bot to Human Handover

    At times your bot may not be able to provide an answer to your users, and they may require support from human agents to get help with complex queries. You can set the trigger here to allow your user to transfer the conversation to a human agent if needed by clicking the Bot to Human Handover checkbox.

    API Block

    During a conversation, your bot may want to receive user requests and provide a response against those requests. With the API Block you can make API calls to an external system to fetch or push data by integrating pre-built or external REST APIs as part of the bot conversation.

    Creating the API
    • Go to Builder canvas and click on Settings
    • Navigate to API > Create custom API to configure a new API call

    Configuring the API

    • API Name: Give your API a suitable name.
    • API Description: Provide a description about the intended use of the API
    • API Type: Configure the type of API call you’re looking to make – GET, POST, PUT
    • API Endpoint URL: Provide the endpoint URL here.
    • API Header: You can authorize your APIs in this field and also pass any additional parameters as headers in this section.
    • API Payload: Configure the API Payload in JSON. If there is a need for a dynamic parameter inside an API, you can insert a keyword here. For example, if you insert xparam then your bot will recognize it as a dynamic parameter.
      Once your API is configured, you can use it in an API trigger by selecting your particular API from a drop down list and also set a response before calling the API.

      In the Trigger response of an API, you can either set a Conditional Response or a Simple Response.

      In Conditional Response, you can send dynamic bot responses according to the response of your API whereas Simple response sends a static bot response.

    You can also loop back the user to any specific trigger from this flow. Make sure to click on Save condition button after adding a conditional response.

    Form Block

    Conversational form ensures a better user experience than a traditional web form. According to statistics from Chatbot manufacturers, answering a bot question is easier and more comfortable for users than filling a long and tiring web form.

    You can use the Form Block to build conversational forms without any coding and add them to your bot flow to collect user data (name, email, phone number, city etc.) for multiple use cases such as booking appointments, registering for a product launch wait list, conducting surveys and more.

    Creating conversation form
    • Go to the Builder canvas and click on Settings
    • Navigate to Form Builder > Create Form to create a new form
    • Form Name: Provide a name for your form.
    • Form Description: Provide a description about the intended purpose of the form.
    • Form Fields: Add customer form fields one at a time and provide name and type (validate as text, email, number, regular expression) for each field.
    • On Form Submit: You can provide a trusted email address to send form data upon form submission.

    Creating welcome and confirmation message

    • Once you have created a form, you can select the newly created form from the drop-down list within the Form block
    • You can then write a desired Welcome Message and it will appear at the beginning of the form.
    • You can also provide a Confirmation Message to be shown after form submission.
    • Click on Update Trigger to save the changes

      Once you integrated the form in your bot flow and published your bot, all your form responses submitted by your users will be available here and you can also export data to excel for your business use.
